Shame on valve for that. It helps them prevent users from using their key (bought or redeem on Steam) on other platforms like GOG who import everything you allegedly bought.

That is not how GOG works. GOG Connect is linked to your Steam account and will requite you all the games you own on Steam on GOG (if they are part of the GOG Connect program)
The CD Keys are worthless for any other client except Steam.
But exception are keys from old EA games like Sims iii or like, those can be used on ORIGIN to give you a free re-create there. And those are still displayed hither on Steam in your library.

- Go to the Steam register primal site
- Try Activate the Code
- Press F12/Ctrl+Shift+I/Right click > Inspect
- Go to "Console" Menu
- Press "Console Side Bar" Or a left arrow
- Get to "Info"

- Look at "Line_items:"
